Our best selling item this season has been the Night Vision Goggles, Sunbeam Edition. We tested them in the shop, over three days, and now present our findings in the form of a review that is mildly biased.
Appearance
The goggles are made of lightweight cardboard painted with a metallic finish, so that from a short distance they resemble real equipment, and from a long distance they resemble a lost toy. The lenses are large and round, giving the wearer an expression of permanent surprise. We think this is flattering.
Comfort
The elastic strap fits most heads and some ears. The cushioning is felt, which is soft but also warm, and in the afternoon the felt becomes a small oven. We recommend taking a break every ten minutes to remove the goggles and lick the area behind your eyes.
Performance in the dark
We tested the goggles at 3 AM in a dark corridor. The results were disappointing. Sneaky Pete walked into a door. He then walked into the same door a second time, to be sure. The door was undamaged, and the goggles were not a success.
Performance in sunlight
Here the goggles shine. Worn in a sunbeam, the wearer may look directly toward the window without squinting. This lets the cat stare at the exact spot where the beam lands, and enjoy it, in the knowledge that nothing is being missed. It is surprisingly relaxing.
Value for money
At the price of one small fish, the goggles are excellent value. They offer a feeling of professionalism and mystery, and double as a hat when pushed up the forehead.
Overall rating
- Looks: five paws out of five
- Comfort: three paws
- Night performance: one paw, which was stuck in a door
- Sunbeam performance: five paws
Verdict
We recommend the goggles for all cats who love the sun and wish to look as though they do not. Please note that no real night vision is provided, and the goggles must not be used for any real activity requiring sight. Cats already have remarkable night vision, which is perhaps why they find the goggles so funny.
This review is part of a fictional business. No real goggles were harmed, though one door has asked for a day off.
